Why isn't the world full of enlightened people?

If all it took was..
to "following your bliss"..
why wouldn't everyone be enlightened?.

It seems that the pathway to get there is barred by the necessity of a passage through hell..
which is obviously something few people even want to go through.

It takes incredible honesty, vulnerability, and courage..
to look at all the thoughts and motives that make up your psyche.
You start to notice all the negative judgements you make about yourself and others.
