Thinking Skills | Journey of a Strategic Thinker | Day 36

Last one month in this journey has been exciting. You can find more about that here:

Thinking Skills | Journey of a Strategic Thinker

Today we explore another paradigm of thinking models. The more easy to understand these models are, higher the chance that you'll remember them and use them. In my pursuit to look for easy to understand thinking models, I landed upon this book - "How Successful People Think"

  • Refuse to be Negative #1
    -- Focus on possibility
-- Ask what's good about the negative side of this?
    -- Look for opportunities
  • Refuse Status Quo #2
-- Don't settle fo how things are
    -- There's always a better way
  • Dream Big #3
-- Expand you dreams little more than usual
    -- Visualize your goals
-- Don't worry if they are Audacious
-- Create a plan 10 times more ambitious than your current ones

Possibility Thinking:

1. Possibility Thinking Increases Your Possibilities:
   - Believing in solutions and embracing possibility thinking opens up new opportunities and possibilities.
   - Example: George Lucas succeeded in making Star Wars despite skeptics who said it couldn't be done. His success led to the creation of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), which became a source of revenue and opened up more possibilities for him.

2. Possibility Thinking Draws Opportunities and People to You:
   - Thinking big and embracing possibility thinking attracts opportunities and like-minded individuals.
   - Example: People who think big and believe in possibilities attract influential people. George Lucas, as a possibility thinker, attracted others to collaborate with him and expand his impact on the film industry.

3. Possibility Thinking Increases Others' Possibilities:
   - Possibility thinking is contagious and inspires confidence and bigger thinking in others.
   - Example: Big thinkers who make things happen create possibilities for others by inspiring them to think beyond limitations and believe in what is possible.

4. Possibility Thinking Allows You to Dream Big Dreams:
   - Embracing possibility thinking helps broaden horizons and dream bigger dreams.
   - Example: Possibility thinkers, like Professor David J. Schwartz suggests, excel in creating positive and optimistic visions in their minds and in the minds of others, leading to the pursuit and achievement of larger aspirations.

5. Possibility Thinking Makes It Possible to Rise Above Average:
   - Possibility thinking breaks the barriers of average thinking and opens up doors for innovation and success.
   - Example: When faced with the challenge of making cars more fuel-efficient, experienced engineers couldn't find a solution due to their average thinking. However, less-experienced engineers, who believed in the possibility of finding a solution, successfully reduced the weight of cars by hundreds of pounds.

6. Possibility Thinking Gives You Energy:
   - Possibility thinking is directly correlated with increased energy levels.
   - Example: Believing in what you're doing and embracing possibility thinking provides motivation and energy to pursue goals and overcome obstacles.

7. Possibility Thinking Keeps You from Giving Up:
   - Possibility thinkers believe in their ability to succeed and maintain a positive mindset.
   - Example: Winners in life constantly think in terms of "I can, I will, and I am," while losers focus on regrets and missed opportunities. Possibility thinkers refuse to give up and have already won a significant part of the battle.

8. How to Feel the Energy of Possibility Thinking:
   - Stop Focusing on the Impossibilities:
     - Eliminate negative thoughts and focus on what's right in any given situation.
     - Example: Instead of dwelling on what could go wrong or why something can't be done, shift the focus to what's positive and possible.

   - Stay Away from the "Experts":
     - Experts often discourage possibilities, so be cautious when accepting their opinions.
     - Example: Rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun and Napoleon Bonaparte chose to avoid labeling things as impossible and achieved extraordinary success.

   - Look for Possibilities in Every Situation:
     - Being a possibility thinker means finding positive possibilities despite the circumstances.
     - Example: Sam Walton, co-founder of Walmart, saw potential in a poorly managed store and focused on the pantyhose rack as a positive aspect, highlighting the ability to find opportunities even in challenging situations.
